Best bark about Botswana: Breakfast at the Gaborone Sun!
Worst Woof about Botswana: Driving over a wall and trying to fix the car the very first night of the Tour!
After hijacked roast chicken and a few caramelized carrots for breakfast, I arrived with my team at the only shelter in the whole of Gaborone on the morning 3rd May – the Gaborone SPCA. I couldn’t believe my eyes- waves of woofs and happy smiles emulated from the children of the SOS Village Children’s Home who had arrived to shake paws with me – in their very own Oscar Tee’s! When all the snaps were taken, I got to meet the volunteers and supporters of this amazing society – and let’s not forget the hundred plus wonderful woofs that were hoping that perhaps I had come to take one of them home! (Sniff… add tears to the page here…)
Gaborone SPCA is my kind of place. Cats to chase, rabbits to stare at, and…did I say cats to chase! The atmosphere is so friendly and warm, and it’s just the place to take a doogie date for the morning – well, you know what I mean! I let the children chose the very first Oscar – that one dog that exudes canine spirit to the highest standards known to dog – and while it was a seemingly impossible task with so much talent behind bars, congratulations to Bobby for taking home the honour. Bobbie and some of his inmates took a walkies along the old dusty African road adjacent to the shelter. Nothing like a victory lap for potentially pending freedom to celebrate the award and let’s hope it isn’t long before Bobby – and all his inmates- get to find a home, sweet home!
A big paws up to Jenny, Jill and Adele and their entire team at the Gaborone SPCA as well as the Children of the SOS Children’s Home for making my visit with you such a wonderful success. Great World Woof Tee shirts by the way, and a special thanks to Mike Hind of “Its Africa” www.itsafrica-cc.com for producing them just for the occasion for ‘zippo nunna’. Please take a bow Liza as well for arranging accommodation for the Woof team at the Gaborone Sun (Grrrreat breakfasts!!) Last but not least, to Christelle at Animal Travel Services who sorted out all my travel papers for a smooth import and export in and out of Gabs! You all seriously rock! Lastly, another wag to all the chefs who cooked us lunch before grabbing my lead and leaving on my very own pooch plane!
Until Namibia, woooooof!
