Best Woof about Croatia: Finally arriving after 2 nights on a day train!

Worst Yelp about the Croatia: Missing the ferry to Italy by 45 yelp seconds!

I had never heard of Zagreb let alone knew how to sniff it on a map prior to organizing the WWT! By the time I finally figured out how the heck to get there from Romania on 2 overnight trains and a harrowing border crossing, you can bet I knew is location than that of my home town! I scraped into Zagreb after spending a few hours in Hungary, and was met by the Friends of Animals – a great organization that put me up on their sofa for the night. I spent the next day with Dr Tatjana and her staff at the Shelter for Abandoned Animals. It’s a state run shelter, and the best in Croatia- big cages, socialized dogs and a very high and healthy adoption rate – that’s what a shelter is supposed to be like!

The highlight of the day was meeting theatre producer and director Borut Separovic – he took 12 dogs from the shelter and produced a play based on the book ‘Timbuktu’ and reflects the state of homelessness from both a dog’s and human’s perspective. Just for the record, 3 of the dogs used by Borut in his play were adopted by the audience, and the other 9 were adopted at a later stage from the shelter. (It was pretty over whelming meeting Borut – he’s a deep, reflective spirit that understands the unfortunate predicament that is homelessness).

My time in Croatia ended in the town of Split, and a dip before the Diocletian Palace much to everyone’s amusement! Actually, I missed the ferry as a result of the swim – and it cost me 48 hours of catch up between the Adriatic and the Coliseum. So on that yap, I better run, only a dog would miss a ferry twice!

Special Bark of thanks to Dr Tatyana, Petra and Borut Separovic for making the day so woofy! Thanks to Maja from Purina for supporting the shelter through food donations and to 'Bartol' and all your friends who weren’t as lucky as you to get the ‘Oscar’, I really hope you find a loving home soon! Big sorry to everyone that I couldn’t stay longer, but on my next World Woof Tour… Yelp…what am I woofing??!!!!
