My Best Bark about Kenya: Chasing a giraffe!

Worst Yelp about Kenya: The traffic in Nairobi!

I’ve always dreamed of this canine in Kenya. Plenty of lions to lick at, a few zebra’s to sniff at and plenty of elephants and rhino’s to ruff at! I sneaked my paws into the Masai Mara Game Reserve and was overwhelmed with all that game! Wow, the aroma of smells I’ve never sniffed before! True beauty to my nose! The Masai tribes keep dogs to hunt and protect their herds. The dogs are semi wild but relatively well looked after. I talked to them about the basic needs of their woofs and left them with a few ROGZ collars for their dogs. As you’ll see in the footage, they thought they made prettier necklaces! Hey, this is Africa, anything woofs!
If I thought my experience in the Masai Mara was impressive, I was about to be bowled over by the presence of Jean Gilchrist. She’s headed up the Kenya SPCA for the past 20 years and is even mentioned in the school curriculum here in Kenya whenever animal welfare is discussed. What’s even more impressive is that she will receive recognition from THE Queen of England (the MBE – member of the British Empire Award) and just for the record, she never mentioned this – I had to get the information out of Victor Ayalo – the new administrator for the SPCA. School kids welcomed me into the shelter and we took a donkey ride to view the premises. Pretty cool if you ass me! I later did a home check with the chief inspector – as most societies do to ensure that a newly adopted dog’s home is right on track. Our time here also included a few interviews and a really fun visit with the AIDS Children at the Nyumbani Orphanage. They have adopted a dog from the Kenya SPCA in the past and are looking to adopt another one in the near future! Woof…I played soccer for an hour with the kids, and scored the most goals too!

A big bark of thanks to Kenya Airways for flying me on my very first commercial flight. When you say you’ll keep sleeping dogs flying, you really mean it – thank you for all the VIP (Very Important Pooch) treatment. To Bonnie and your staff at the Karen Blixen Coffee Garden and Cottages – what a beautiful spot. Your kindness is very appreciated and sorry for destroying the sheets… I promise to wash my paws next time I pounce on the bed! Thanks to Maggie Nduta & her team at SDV Transami Kenya Ltd for getting my papers ready in record timing – and
Lastly, for the guards protecting one of the 7 natural wonders of the world –Thanks for not sniffing me out when I was sniffing in the Masai Mara Reserve! Ruff - Ruff!!!
