Oscars in Namibia

Best bark about Namibia: Peeing on a tree that’s over 7000 years old!

Worst Woof about Namibia: Trying to climb those mighty sand dunes!

Oscar has always wanted to go to Namibia. The sand dunes to sniff, jackals to chase and stars to wish bones upon. As you’ll whiff from the footage, being here is like a dream - just like my story! I did my very first balloon ride (with my very own certificate to prove it), panted over the Deadvlei pans and as a token of appreciation, lifted my leg over trees that were over 7000 years! They may even come back to life after that!
The Windhoek SPCA is one inspiring group of great people. What more can I woof? They instill belief in me that with passion and purpose, positive differences can be made in this world! From the moment I arrived to the moment I stepped back onto my jet, it was mighty mutt memory one after the other. Lunch was lapped out for me upon my arrival, and there was a wonderful media presence to expand my message. Ilga, the SPCA’ chairlady and a passionate pooch supporter of unbelievable proportion and I joined ‘DJ Deacon’ on 97.6 FM to tell everyone about the Tour and why they should adopt a dog at the Windhoek SPCA! It was cool, and being the polite pooch that I am, I only barked when we were on and off the air! A dinner was laid out for all of us that evening and the following day it was all back to business. 3 potential Oscar’s ‘Oscar’s’ rallied for the honor of being the ‘Oscar’. I couldn’t decide! Ilga’s Pet Works were woofed in for the occasion to clean up the three nominations to help me decide. After plenty of shampoo, a snip here and there, Diego emerged as the winner. Beautiful in his clean coat, he is the only doggie I’ve tried to make woofie with!
The video will be up in a few more days, so keep your eyes and wet nose peeled… Until I zip into Zamia, woooooof!

A big paws up to Ilga Gluck, Chairlady of the Windhoek SPCA and her entire team for not only making my visit tops, but for also taking the initiative to launch ‘A Woof and a Meow wants You’ campaign through this Tour! A special thanks to the massive media presence for supporting Oscar’s message (and to ‘DJ Deacon’ for having me on air – sorry I barked so much!). To Tiger Wheel and Tire for producing the Tee Shirts and the dinner for all of us. If I was driving around the world, I’d buy my tyres from YOU! Thank you to Claudia Suren & team at DHL NAMIBIA for helping out with my travel docs in Namibia, Herman and Jeanne at the beautiful Belvedere B&B for allowing me to sleep on the most comfiest bed in town (Sorry, I know I said I’d sleep on the floor!) and last but not least, to Karl and your absolutely fantastic team at the Sossusvlei Lodge! I’d trade the meatiest bone known to dog for another night at your kennel. Your kindness with our project is worthy of an Oscar and there will be one in the mail sooon!

PAWS ON THIS: Internet in Africa is slower that a tick immigrating across my bod! The video footage is panting to be get up but it may take another week!
